WSCR RECAP: No. 8-ranked Gryphons take down No. 7-ranked Western Mustangs

LONDON, Ont. - Friday afternoon (Sept. 4) in London, the No. 8-ranked Guelph Gryphons women's soccer team picked up an impressive 3-1 road win over the No. 7-ranked Western Mustangs. The Gryphons, who improved to 2-0-0 on the season with the win, were able to get off to a great start on Friday, with fifth-year OUA All-Star defender, Katie Kimens, opening the scoring in the 28th minute with her header off of a Cassidy Anderson corner kick to give the visiting Gryphons a 1-0 lead. After the Mustangs drew level early in the 2nd half, the Gryphons would re-take the lead in the 59th minute when Isabella Trepanier's cross into the box led to a Mustangs own-goal, giving the Gryphons a 2-1 lead. In the 78th minute, Guelph would extend the lead to 3-1, when a Katie Kimens header off the crossbar was knocked in by third-year winger, Ella Cahill, whose second goal of the season sealed a big three points for the Gryphons.

Friday afternoon's game marked the first of three consecutive road games for the Gryphons (2-0-0), who will return to action on Friday, Sept. 11 when they travel to Ansley Alumni Field in Waterloo to take on the Laurier Golden Hawks.
