LONDON, Ont. - The Gryphons men's soccer team begin the new season with points in their opening two matches of the season following their 1-1 road draw against the Western Mustangs on Saturday (Sept. 6) from Western Alumni Stadium. The Gryphons took the lead in the 24th minute of the match when
Ambrose Tinmouth (Comox, BC) scored on a free kick when he fired one into the top left corner of the net from just outside of the box to put his side ahead. For the fifth-year management economics and finance major, it was his third goal and fifth point of the season in his two games played. The Guelph lead lasted for just over and hour until the Gryphons conceded a penalty with a foul in the box as Stefano Pelliccioni scored from the spot to tie the game up at 1-1 in the 86th minute. The result would hold at the full time whistle as the Gryphons grab a point on the road.
Friday afternoon's game marked the first of three consecutive road games for the Gryphons (1-0-1), who will return to action on Friday, Sept. 11 when they travel to Ansley Alumni Field in Waterloo to take on the Laurier Golden Hawks.
