The Gryphons (0-2) and Ravens (0-2) will both take the field staring a potential 0-3 start to the season as both teams are in search for their first win of 2026. The Gryphons came up short in their home opener on Sunday (Sept. 6) losing 20-11 in a defensive battle versus the McMaster Marauders in Week 2 while the Ravens were unable to complete the 4th quarter comeback in their 31-26 defeat to the Waterloo Warriors in Ottawa.

The Ravens are led by quarterback Elijah Barnes whose been lighting up the OUA in 2026. Barnes leads the conference with 801 total passing yards and 53 completions in his first two games of the season. He's completing just under 70% of his passes this season and has thrown for three touchdowns. Barnes will test a strong Gryphon secondary which has only given up an average of 261.5 yards per game in the air. Elijah Barnes needs 303 passing yards to become the fourth Raven in program history to pass for 5,000 career yards. His 53 completions for 801 yards are the most for a Raven in the opening two games of a season. Barnes is flanked on the outside by his receivers Frederick Hachley and Nash Macdonald who have been key contributors for the Carleton offence. Hachley is the current OUA leader with 239 total receiving yards while catching 14 balls and has found the end zone twice. Macdonald is 4th in the conference with 214 total receiving yards as he has 11 receptions in this young season. The Ravens defence is led by the OUA's leading tackler in Joel Chekwi. Chekwi leads the conference with 24 total tackles at his linebacker position. The Ravens on defence have allowed an average of 33 points per game and an average of 477 total yards per games. Kicker Carlton Thai is a perfect 4-4 on field goals this season as comes arrives to OUA after setting the Merrimack College (NCAA D1 - FCS) program record for field goals and single season points in 2025.
Ethan Garwe vs McMaster
The Gryphon defence has been a bright spot for the team in the first two games of the season. The defence has only given up an average of 355.5 total yards per game and has been very good in run defence, only allowing an average of 94 yards per game. The Gryphon secondary will be tested on Saturday, led by the experienced Nathaniel Slawter, Kyle Simon-Guerin and Gianni Green as they look to slow down Elijah Barnes and the explosive Ravens passing game. Quarterback Tristan Aboud looks to get his 2026 season on track in this one as he has thrown for 446 total yards for 3 touchdowns while completing 50% of his passes. Tristan Aboud, after just moving into 3rd all-time in program history in total passing yards, can move into 2nd all-time on Saturday in total offensive yards in a career, needing 158 total yards, to pass Jazz Lindsay's mark of 6,973. Fourth-year running back Caleb Sargeant has been explosive in the running game, rushing for 153 yards (4th in OUA) for an average of 9.6 yards per carry (3rd in OUA). Second-year receiver Ethan Garwe is coming off a breakout game against McMaster, making three receptions for a game-high 119 yards marking his first career 100-yard receiving game as a Gryphon. Garwe has 7 receptions for 166 yards and a touchdown is currently averaging 23.7 yards per reception (2nd in OUA). The Gryphons and Ravens met last season where both teams combined for 83 total points as the Gryphons came away with the 55-28 road win.

Kickoff of the Gryphons Week 3 matchup against the Carleton Ravens is set for 1pm on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, with the pre-game show (featuring former Gryphon quarterback and Canadian football insider, Justin Dunk, and GryphVision host, Scott Fraser) set to get underway at 12:50pm. The action from Alumni Stadium can be seen live online on oua.tv and locally on RogersTV Cable 20.
