GUELPH, Ont. - The Gryphons men's soccer team got off a flying start in the 2026 OUA season opening match, defeating the Algoma Thunderbirds 5-1 on Saturday night (Aug. 29) from the Gryphon Soccer Complex.
It didn't take long for the Gryphons to open the scoring as
Ambrose Tinmouth got his side to an early 1-0 lead, scoring 61 seconds into the match. The fifth-year forward from Comox, BC added another goal in the 37th minute to double his team lead to make the score 2-0 for the hosts. Tinmouth would turn into a provider in the second half, assisting on a pair of goals fromÂ
Jahmal Boursiquot (Ottawa, ON) to put the Gryphons up 4-0.
Peter Bandula also added a goal late in the match in their 5-1 win as the visitors scored in the 85th minute to end Guelph's clean sheet bid.Â
The Gryphons (1-0-0) will now make their way to London for their first road game of the new season when they take on the Western Mustangs (1-1-0) on Friday afternoon (Sept. 4).Â
