GUELPH, Ont. – After a sensational first half of the season, in which the Gryphons women's basketball team posted a 10-2 record, the team returned to their home court on Friday, Jan. 10 and Saturday, Jan. 11 to tip off the 2026 portion of their 2025-26 regular season schedule. Friday, Jan. 9, 2026 | Gryphons hold on late, edge Mustangs 78-77
The first game of the new year for the Gryphons saw their rivals from London, the Western Mustangs, visit the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre for a Friday night matchup. Gryphons fourth-year guard,
Hannah Bourdon, led the way with a huge night (27 points, 13 rebounds), including a key bucket and assist down the stretch. Bourdon's jumper with just over a minute remaining brought Guelph to within one, trailing 75-74 with just over a minute remaining. With :43 seconds remaining, Bourdon then found
Christina Morra for 2 points inside, giving Guelph a 76-75 lead over the Mustangs. A pair of clutch free throws late from
Alexis Wright, followed by a late stand on the defensive end, helped the Gryphons escape with the hard-fought 78-77 victory over Western. With the win on Friday night, the Gryphons improved to 11-2, while the Mustangs fell to 6-7 on the season.
Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026 | Gryphons beat Lancers, 73-57, in battle of top two teams in OUA West
A marquee matchup on Saturday night in Guelph saw the 10-2 Windsor Lancers visit Guelph to face the 11-2 Gryphons in a battle between the top two teams in the OUA West (and two of the top two teams in the entire OUA, with only TMU and Queen's owning better records). It marked the second head-to-head matchup of the season between the Gryphons and Lancers, with Windsor beating Guelph, 65-59, back on November 7 in Windsor. This time around, however, it would be the Gryphons coming out on top in decisive fashion, with the Gryphons getting balanced scoring and an all-around team effort en route to a 73-57 victory over the Lancers. Three Gryphons scored in double figures (
Hannah Bourdon – 21 points, 12 rebounds,
Christina Morra – 18 points, 12 rebounds,
Stephanie Galikowski – 14 points, 7 rebounds). The Gryphons connected on 9 three-pointers in the game, with rookie guard
Stephanie Galikowski (Toronto, ON) accounting for 4 of those. With the win, the Gryphons push their record to 12-2, while Windsor falls to 10-3. The 16-point victory for the Gryphons could also prove to be crucial, as it gives them the head-to-head, point-differential tie-breaker over Windsor should the two teams finish the season with the same record.
Next up for the Gryphons (12-2) is a pair of road games, beginning with yet another marquee matchup on Friday, January 16 when the team heads to Kingston to face the undefeated Queen's Gaels (13-0). Queen's, ranked No. 5 in the latest U SPORTS Top 10, is one of only three undefeated teams in the country (Saskatchewan and Regina the others). Following Friday night's matchup in Kingston, the Gryphons will head to Oshawa on Saturday, Jan. 17 to face the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks (0-13).
