TORONTO, Ont. – On Monday, September 8, 2025 the U SPORTS office released its latest national rankings for the 2025-26 season. Three Gryphon varsity teams are represented in the latest rankings with women's rugby climbing one spot to No. 1, football re-entering the rankings at No. 10 after dropping out last week and women's soccer making their first appearance in this year's national rankings at No. 10. Women's Rugby – No. 1
The Gryphons women's rugby team moves up a spot to No. 1 as the top-ranked team in the country. The Gryphons improved to 2-0 on the season following their 59-9 win over the McMaster Marauders on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 6) led by
Lara Jorgensen's three tries and
Madison Minnis' two tries. The Gryphons will now travel east on the 401 up to Kingston for a marquee showdown on Saturday (Sept. 13) when they take on No. 2-ranked Queen's Gaels (2-0) in a rematch of last season's dramatic OUA Championship game.
Football – No. 10
Making their return to the U SPORTS Top 10 after dropping out last week is the Gryphon football team. The Gryphons got a pair of long touchdown runs from
Donavin Milloy and
Isaiah Smith in the 4th quarter to help them earn their first win of the season in a 31-17 road victory over the Windsor Lancers on Saturday night (Sept. 6). The Gryphs (1-2) are back home at U of G's Alumni Stadium this Saturday afternoon (Sept. 13) when they host the Ottawa Gee-Gees (2-1) in Week 4 of the 2025 OUA season.
Women's Soccer – No. 10
The Gryphons women's soccer team makes their debut in the latest U SPORTS rankings following their impressive weekend up in Sault Ste. Marie. The Gryphs took on the Algoma Thunderbirds in a pair of games where they picked up all 6 points, winning Friday (Sept. 5) by a margin of 6-0 before coming away with a 2-0 win on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 7). Guelph has earned a point in all four matches they have played this season and boast a record of 3-0-1 (wins-losses-draws) and currently sit atop the OUA West standings with 10 points. The Gryphons return home to the Gryphon Soccer Complex for a pair of games this weekend when they host the Brock Badgers on Friday night (Sept. 12) and the McMaster Marauders on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 14).
