Gryphons Selected in 2025 CFL Draft
Vyshonne Janusas, a 24-year-old standout receiver from Windsor, Ontario, was the first University of Guelph player to be taken off the board on Tuesday night with the Calgary Stampeders selecting the Gryphons leading receiver with the 38th overall pick in the 2025 CFL Draft.

The 5-foot-11, 221-pound arts major was a physical presence on the field throughout his four seasons at the University of Guelph, excelling not only as a pass catcher, but also establishing himself as one of the team's top blocking receivers. During the 2024 season, Janusas was named an OUA Second Team All-Star after leading the team with 33 receptions (8th in OUA) for 459 yards and 2 touchdowns, while also making a significant impact as a kick returner (finishing 2nd in the OUA with 452 kick return yards, highlighted by a 109-yard kick return for a touchdown against the Waterloo Warriors). It marked the second time in his Gryphon career that Vyshonne has earned OUA All-Star status, after being named an OUA First Team All-Star back in 2022. Janusas now heads to Calgary to join a former Gryphon teammate in receiver Clark Barnes, who has spent the past two seasons with the Stampeders after being
selected by Calgary in the 2023 CFL Draft.
Daniel Hocevar, a 6-foot-2, 297-pound offensive lineman from Hamilton, Ontario, was the next Gryphon to be selected, with the sport and event management major taken by the Edmonton Elks in Round 6 (49th overall). Hocevar suited up in seven of the Gryphons 8 regular season games in 2024, starting six games at tackle and one game at guard, helping lead the way up front for a University of Guelph ground game that finished 2nd in the OUA in rushing yards (1,718). Rounding out the Gryphon selections on Tuesday evening was Gryphons team captain and standout centre,
Ethan Pyle, who was selected by the Toronto Argonauts in Round 7 (64th overall). Pyle, a 23-year-old sport and event management major from Milton, stands at 6-foot-2, 284-pounds, and was named an OUA Second Team All-Star in 2024. Pyle's first taste of professional football will come in familiar surroundings, with the Toronto Argonauts
once again set to host their training camp at the University of Guelph.
