SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. – The Guelph Gryphons men's basketball team earned a weekend sweep of the Algoma Thunderbirds to cap off their 2024-25 OUA regular season. On Friday night (Feb. 14) and Saturday afternoon (Feb. 15), the Gryphons picked up a pair of wins over Algoma at the George Leach Centre for their 8th and 9th wins of the season. The Gryphons, who have posted a 7-4 record since the calendar flipped to 2025, finish the 2024-25 regular season with a 9-13 record, and have clinched a spot in the 2025 OUA men's basketball playoffs. The Gryphons will now await the confirmation of the OUA's tiebreaking procedures to see what seed they will be in the playoffs.
Game 1 (Friday, Feb. 14, 2025) | Guelph 80 – Algoma 69

Jack Tunstill was part of a memorable performance for the St. Thomas, Ontario native, who finished the night with 16 points (6-9 shooting), 10 rebounds and 3 steals. Third-year forward
Eric Armstrong (New Hamburgh, ON) recorded a 14-point, 15-rebound double-double, while freshman guard
Amare Hamilton (Mississauga, ON) had a team-high 17 points, as the Gryphons used a big 3rd quarter (outscoring Algoma 23-11) en route to the 80-69 victory. With the win, the Gryphons improved to 8-13 on the season, while the Algoma Thunderbirds fell to 0-21.
Game 2 (Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025) | Guelph 77 – Algoma 67
Saturday afternoon, the Gryphons and Thunderbirds were back at it at the George Leach Centre, in game that marked the regular season finale for both teams. The visiting Gryphons jumped out to an 11-point lead at the half, only for the Thunderbirds to battle back in the 3rd quarter and make it a 2-point game heading to the 4th. The Gryphons would close things out in the final quarter, outscoring Algoma 19-11 to secure the 77-67 victory. With the win, the Gryphons end their regular season 9-13, while the Thunderbirds finish the season winless at 0-22. Gryphons guard,

Amare Hamilton added 14 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists.
