GUELPH, Ont. – The Guelph Gryphons women's volleyball team ended their 2024-25 season on a winning note, with a weekend sweep of the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Friday (Feb. 7) and Saturday (Feb. 8) nights in Guelph. The Gryphons took both games in straight sets to finish their 2024-25 OUA regular season with a record of 7-13. The Gryphons will miss out on the OUA playoffs, despite closing out their regular season schedule by winning five of their final six games.

On Friday night (Feb. 7), the Gryphons defeated Lakehead 25-18, 25-20 & 25-22, with second-year middle blocker,
Alexandra Nicholson-Clarke (Ajax, ON) leading the way with a team-high 15 points. On Saturday evening (Feb. 8), the Gryphons made quick work of the visitors from Thunder Bay, winning 25-10, 25-11 & 25-10. Third-year left side,
Briar Crerar (Pickering, ON) tallied 18 points (15 kills, 2 aces) in a dominant team performance for the Gryphons on their annual 'Senior Night' with graduating seniors

Nikina Bear-Lowen among those recognized. Saturday night's game also marked the final game for long-time University of Guelph women's volleyball head coach,
Paul Funk, who announced his retirement after 20 seasons overseeing the Gryphons women's volleyball program. Funk was honoured in a post-game ceremony and leaves U of G as a three-time OUA West Coach of the Year recipient, while also guiding the Gryphons to a pair of OUA medals (silver in 2010-11 and bronze in 2019-20).
