GOLF RECAP: Gryphon Women Finish 4th; U of G Men Finish 12th at 2025 OUA Golf Championships

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Gryphons women's golf team narrowly missed out on an OUA podium spot, finishing in 4th-place in the final team standings, while the Gryphons men's golf team finished in 12th-place, at the 2025 OUA Golf Championships. The two-day conference championship event took place over the weekend (Oct. 18-19), with the men's tournament held at Oshawa Golf and Country Club, while the women's tournament was held in Pickering at Watson's Glen Golf Club. A total of 14 universities from across the province were represented, with the Waterloo Warriors taking home the women's OUA title, while the men's OUA title was claimed by the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks. With the Gryphons women's team finishing in 4th-place, they have earned a spot at nationals in the spring of 2026, which will be the third consecutive year in which the Gryphon women will compete at the Golf Canada Canadian University/College Championships.

After a program-best OUA silver finish a year ago, the Gryphons women's golf team came close to producing another OUA podium finish but fell just short in the end, finishing the two-day event just two strokes back of the 3rd-place Windsor Lancers. Ela Jones and Jacqueline Giles led the way for the Gryphon women at the 2025 OUA Golf Championships, with both golfers earning a Top 10 finish (T-9) in field of 50 golfers. Giles, a molecular biology and genetics major, was in the hunt following an impressive opening round of 76 putting her two strokes behind the leader, but a round of 82 on Day 2 saw her drop into a tie for 9th. Ela Jones posted back-to-back rounds of 79 to also earn her a Top 10 placing. Both Giles and Jones earn OUA Second Team All-Star status for their finish. Ava Crane rounded out the scoring for the Gryphons as her surge on day two propelled her to a tie for 21st.

On the men's side, the Gryphons were comprised of Will Drewery, Will Dodd, Nathan Freure, Caleb Patry and Curtis Coulson, finishing 12th in the team standings. Will Drewery led the Gryphon men at the 2025 OUA Golf Championships, placing in a tie for 22nd. The second-year Hespeler, ON native had a fantastic opening round, shooting a one-over round of 73 which had him in contention for the individual title. Will Dodd rebounded on Day 2 following a tough opening round, shooting a final round of 75 on to finish in a tie for 34th. Same can be said for Nathan Freure who shot a Day 2 score of 76 to finish his championship in a tie for 42nd. Caleb Patry rounded out the scoring for his team with a two-day total of 164.
