The Gryphons enter Saturday's regular season finale versus York with a record of 2-5, but with their playoff hopes still very much alive. Gryphon fans will be keeping a close eye on the out-of-town scoreboard on Saturday afternoon, as Guelph needs a win over York, plus some help from their Highway 6 rivals, in order to claim the 7th and final playoff spot in the OUA. With a win on Saturday afternoon over York, coupled with a McMaster Marauders victory over the Carleton Ravens in Hamilton, the Gryphons will be playoff-bound. The York Lions (2-5) are also fighting for their playoff lives, with York needing a win over Guelph, coupled with a Carleton win, in order for the Lions to be playoff-bound.

The Gryphons are coming off their bye week, following a tough 27-17 home loss to the Queen's Gaels on their Homecoming game back on October 4, while the York Lions roll into Guelph fresh off a loss to the Western Mustangs last week. The York Lions are led by an experienced quarterback in Keegan Hall. Hall, the grad transfer from McMaster, is in his first season at York and is coming off a season-high 31 completions on 49 passes for 405 yards and 3 touchdown passes. Hall will pose a threat in the passing game for the Gryphon defence as he is completing 64.4% of his passes on the year for 1,924 yards and 10 touchdown passes. The defence will need to keep an eye on Nicholas Adair at receiver as he has turned it on in his last two games. Adair went off against the Mustangs last week catching 11 balls for 156 yards with 3 touchdown receptions, and against Waterloo (Oct. 4), hauled in 7 passes for 133 yards and a touchdown. Adair in his 5 games played this season has made 27 receptions for 455 yards to go along with his 5 touchdown receptions. The Lions do most of their damage through the air as they are 3rd in the OUA with 2,248 passing yards while putting up 26.1 points per game. However, the Lions defensively allow an OUA-high 42.9 points per game and have given up an average of 547.3 yards per game.

The Gryphons has had one of the better offences in the OUA this season averaging 496.9 yards per game while ranking 4th in the OUA with 28.9 points per game. In their matchup against Queen's two weeks ago (Oct. 4), the Gryphons were able to put up 405 yards against a tough Gaels defence but were only able to score 17 points in the loss. Tristan Aboud leads the U of G passing attack, with the Montreal native on the season completing 63.5% of his passes for 1,928 yards while throwing for 7 touchdowns to 6 interceptions. Willem Arseneau is one of the team's main targets at receiver as he has 330 receiving yards in his five games played and leads the team with 3 touchdown receptions. The Gryphons will rely on their running game which averages 198 yard per game, led by their dual-threat quarterback, Marshall McCray. The Niagara Falls native leads the team with 8 rushing touchdowns and has rushed for 292 yards on the season when he has been on the field. Defensively, the team has done an outstanding job at limiting their opponents as the opposition has only averaged 391 yards per game on the season. Braeden MacDougall leads the defence at linebacker as the team leader with 27.5 tackles while Jevaun Jacobsen leads the team with 3.0 sacks on the year.

The Gryphons and Lions last met a year ago in Toronto where the Gryphons came away with a 33-19 road win on October 11, 2024.

Kickoff of the Gryphons regular season finale is set for 1pm on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025, with the pre-game show (featuring former Gryphon quarterback and Canadian football insider, Justin Dunk, and GryphVision host, Scott Fraser) set to get underway at 12:50pm. The action from Alumni Stadium can be seen live online on www.oua.tv and broadcast live on Rogers TV Cable 20.
