KINGSTON, Ont. – On Friday night (Oct. 10, 2025) at Nixon Field in Kingston, the Gryphons men's rugby team picked up an impressive 42-24 road win over the Queen's Gaels in the marquee matchup of the 2025 OUA men's rugby regular season schedule. With the win, the four-time defending OUA champion Gryphons improve to 5-0 on the season and take one step closer to securing home-field advantage throughout the OUA playoffs. The Gryphons can officially secure home-field throughout the postseason next Sunday (Oct. 19) with a win over the Trent Excalibur.
Friday night's matchup in Kingston, which served as a re-match of last season's OUA championship game, started in similar fashion as last year's title game, with the Gaels getting off to a fast start. Queen's jumped out to a 14-0 lead over the Gryphons, but just as they did in last year's championship game, the Gryphons would respond in a big way. Guelph would score 35 unanswered points to take control of the game, en route to the 42-24 victory. Gryphons fourth-year prop,
Charles Trollip (Guelph, ON), was the lone U of G player to record multiple tries on the night, while third-year centre
Kalin Sager led the way for the Gryphons in defence. Gryphons fourth-year winger,
Tomas Dallan (Buenos Aires, Argentina) was a perfect 7-for-7 off the tee.
The six-game regular season schedule will officially come to a close for the Gryphons (5-0) on Sunday, Oct. 19 when they host Trent (2-3) in a 3pm matchup. The 2025 OUA men's rugby playoffs get underway on Saturday, Oct. 25 with the quarterfinal stage, but the Gryphons have earned a bye through the quarterfinals and will open their postseason at home during the OUA semifinal stage on Saturday, Nov. 1.
