GUELPH, Ont. – A standout performance from fourth-year forward
Lucy Tesseyman, and a late made three-pointer from third-year guard
Hannah Bourdon, helped lift the No. 9-ranked Gryphons women's basketball team to a 73-70 victory over the McMaster Marauders on Wednesday night (Jan. 8) in Guelph. With the win, the Gryphons improve to 9-3 on the season and sit in 1st-place in the OUA West Division standings, while the McMaster Marauders fall to 7-5.
The Gryphons were led by senior forward,
Lucy Tesseyman, who put together a memorable night with big plays at both ends of the court. The London, Ontario native finished the game with a game-high 20 points while filling the stat sheet with 8 rebounds, 3 blocks and 3 steals. Tesseyman spearheaded a balanced Gryphon attack, with all five Guelph starters scoring in double figures on the night, including 18 points from
Hannah Bourdon. With the game tied at 70-70 late in the 4th quarter, Bourdon would connect on the biggest basket of the night, with her second made three-pointer of the night proving to be the decisive points on the night, putting Guelph ahead 73-70. The Gryphon defence would close out the game late, forcing the Marauders into multiple turnovers helping Guelph secure their 9th win of the season.
The Gryphons (9-3) now have 10-games remaining in their 2024-25 regular season schedule, and will begin a three-game road trip this weekend with a Saturday matchup at the University of Waterloo against the Waterloo Warriors (5-6).
