GUELPH, Ont. – On Saturday night (Jan. 25) from the Gryphon Centre Arena, the Gryphons men's hockey team suffered a 6-3 home loss to the Carleton Ravens. The opening period didn't go the way the Gryphons wanted as they conceded twice and trailed 2-0 after twenty minutes of play. The Gryphons would find a response early in the second period when
Nolan Forster off the faceoff win,
wired the loose puck off the iron and in to cut the deficit in half at the 4:41 mark of the period. 91 seconds later, the Gryphons would strike again, this time with third-year forward Nolan DeGurse
taking the puck into the Ravens zone and scoring his 9th goal of the season as his shot froze the Carleton goalkeeper, Steven Bacovsky to tie the game up at 2-2.
Guelph found themselves on the wrong side of the scoreboard in third period when the Ravens dumped the puck in and it took an unlucky bounce off the stick of
Tanner Wickware as he tried to settle it down and it ended up on to the stick of Braeden Virtue who scored his second goal of the game to give Carleton the lead. The Gryphons would pick up their teammate 1:47 after the goal when Nolan DeGurse with
a head of steam from the right side finds the top corner of the net for his second goal of the night to tie the game up at 3-3. However, the Ravens would score 26 seconds later when the rebound found the stick of Oliver Castleman and he scored to give the visitors from Ottawa the 4-3 lead. Carleton would add two more goals in the period, including an empty netter as they would leave Guelph with 6-3 tonight.
With the loss, the Gryphons fall to 11-11 on the season while the Ravens improve to 12-8-1. Guelph will now play their next four games on the road starting on Friday night (Jan. 31) when visit the RMC Paladins in Kingston.
