Gryphon Alum, Jesse Zesseu, Wins Silver at Paris 2024 Paralympic Games in Discus

PARIS, France – University of Guelph graduate, Jesse Zesseu, claimed silver in the men's discus F37 class on Friday (September 6) at the Paralympic Games Paris 2024. Zesseu, a 25-year-old from Toronto who attended the University of Guelph for five years (2017-18 to 2021-22), earned Canada's 21st medal, matching the country's medal total from the Tokyo Paralympics.
 
The Bachelor of Arts (political science) grad from U of G had a throw of 53.24m on Friday at Stade de France, which helped him finish 0.7 metres ahead of the reigning Paralympic champion from Pakistan (Ali Haider). The only athlete in the field to finish ahead of Zesseu was Uzbekistan's Tolibboy Yuldashev, who took gold with a personal best throw of 57.28m
 
Zesseu, who was born with cerebral palsy after suffering a stroke at birth, was making his Paralympics debut. His silver medal in Paris marks his second medal on the international stage after also having earned a silver at the Santiago 2023 Parapan Am Games.
