GUELPH, Ont. – A sold-out crowd of 4,350 fans filled the University of Guelph's Alumni Stadium on Friday night (May 31, 2024) to watch the Toronto Argonauts defeat the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, 25-14, in CFL preseason action. Fans and players alike were greeted with sunny skies and ideal playing conditions at U of G, with the biggest play of the game for the Argos coming in the 3rd quarter with Toronto quarterback, Bryan Scott, finding Argos rookie receiver and former Laval Rouge et Or standout, Kevin Mital, for an 82-yard touchdown pass to put the Argos in front 19-3. The Argonauts other touchdown on the night came from starting quarterback, Cameron Dukes, who ran one in from 5-yards out in the 2nd quarter to help the Argos jump out to a 12-0 lead over Hamilton. Argos QB Cameron Dukes touchdown run vs Ticats - May 31, 2024Dukes, who is expected to take over starting quarterback duties for the Argos in their regular season opener on June 9 vs the BC Lions, had a strong showing on Friday night at U of G, finishing 10-12 passing, for 129 yards to go along with his touchdown run. The Ticats lone touchdown of the night was set up by a spectacular 38-yard reception from receiver Dezmon Patmon, who made an acrobatic, contested catch at the 1-yard line, setting up a short touchdown run by Hamilton running back, Ante Litre. The win for the Argos marked the second straight season in which they have recorded a win on University of Guelph campus to wrap up their preseason, after earning a 34-23 win at Alumni Stadium a year ago versus Ottawa. Friday night's victory over the Ticats marked the end of a three-week stay in Guelph for the Argos, with players and staff once again calling the University of Guelph home for the team's 2024 training camp. The Argos have now held their training camp at the University of Guelph on five separate occasions within the past nine years (2024, 2023, 2022, 2021 & 2016).

Three former University of Guelph football players are currently listed on the rosters for the Argos and Ticats, with free safety, Royce Metchie, the lone Gryphon on the Argos, while offensive lineman Coulter Woodmansey and receiver Kiondré Smith representing U of G on the Hamilton roster. Starters on both teams saw limited action during Friday night's preseason action, with Hamilton set to kick off their 2024 regular season on Friday, June 7 at Calgary, while the Argos now prepare to host the BC Lions on Sunday, June 9.
