WBB RECAP: Playoff-Bound Gryphons Close Out Regular Season with Road Win Over Laurentian

SUDBURY, Ont. – Saturday night (Feb. 17) in Sudbury, the playoff-bound Guelph Gryphons women's basketball team closed out their regular season schedule with a dominating road win over Laurentian (6-16), defeating the Voyageurs by a final score of 91-69. With the win, the Gryphons finish the regular season with a 15-7 record and finish in 2nd-place in the OUA West Division standings. Both the Gryphons and Waterloo Warriors finish the regular season with identical 15-7 records, but the Warriors edge the Gryphons in the OUA tiebreaker scenario, resulting in the Warriors finishing 1st in the division and receiving a first-round bye. The Gryphons meanwhile earn a top-2 finish in the OUA West Division standings for a second consecutive season, after the team also finished 2nd in the division a season ago with a 16-6 record.

The Gryphons final road trip of the regular season was a successful one. After defeating the Nipissing Lakers 85-51 on Friday night in North Bay, the Gryphons were right back at it on Saturday night in Sudbury with a strong showing versus Laurentian. Gryphons senior forward, Trinity Papamandjaris (London, ON) led the way on Saturday night, scoring a career-high 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting. Second-year guard, Hannah Bourdon (Fort Erie, ON) was close behind with 18 points, as the Gryphons had a total of five different players score in double figures on the night, while shooting 43.4% from the field as a team.

Next up for the Gryphons, the 2024 OUA women's basketball playoffs. The Gryphons enter the 12-team OUA women's basketball playoffs as the No. 7-seed, and are set to host the No. 10-seeded Windsor Lancers (11-11) in an OUA Preliminary Round playoff game on Wednesday, February 21 at 6pm at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre.
