GUELPH, Ont. – Sunday afternoon (Oct. 27) at the Gryphon Centre Arena, the Gryphons men's hockey team produced some late magic to pick up a 2-1 win over the visiting Brock Badgers. Gryphons rookie forward,
Nolan Dann, broke a 1-1 tie by firing home the game-winner with :07.3 seconds remaining in the 3rd period, to help the Gryphons improve to 5-3-0 on the season. With the loss, the Brock Badgers fall to 4-2-2 on the season. By securing the two points in regulation, the Gryphons move into a three-way tie atop the OUA West Division standings, with Guelph (5-3-0), Western (5-1-0) and Brock (4-2-2) all sitting on 10 points.
For
Nolan Dann, the game-winner late in regulation marked his team-leading 4th goal of the 2024-25 OUA regular season. Dann, a 20-year-old arts major from Cambridge, established himself as a regular goal scoring threat during his OHL career, scoring 29 goals with the Sarnia Sting in 2021-22 and 28 goals with the Flint Firebirds in 2023-24. Now in his first season of OUA hockey, the Cambridge, Ontario native has impressed early on in his collegiate career, having registered a point in 7 of Guelph's 8 regular season games to date.
Gryphons forward,
Luke Bignell, opened the scoring in the 1st period on Sunday afternoon, his 2nd of the season, to give Guelph the early lead. The Gryphons also received a standout performance in net from rookie goalie,
Cal Schell, who turned away 37 of the 38 shots sent his way to improve to 2-0-0 in his two starts this season, with Schell also backstopping the Gryphons to a 4-3 win at Windsor back on October 5.
The Gryphons (5-3-0) will now hit the road for a pair of away games in Toronto next weekend. The Gryphons will visit the old Maple Leaf Gardens on Friday, November 1 for a matchup with the TMU Bold (3-5-0), followed by a Saturday night (Nov. 2) game at Varsity Arena against the University of Toronto Varsity Blues (4-3-0).
