WHKY RECAP: York Lions Spoil Gryphons Home Opener

GUELPH, Ont. - The No. 4-ranked Guelph Gryphons women's hockey team suffered their first loss of the 2024-25 season, losing 1-0 on Thursday night (Oct. 24) in Guelph to the York Lions. Thursday night's game marked the Gryphons 2024-25 home opener, with the team starting the season with four straight road wins before finally returning to home ice sporting a perfect 4-0-0 record. But the visiting Lions would become the first OUA team this season to take points off the Gryphons, with the lone goal of the game coming late in the 3rd period from York's fifth-year blueliner, Ava Ricker-Singh. With the result, the Gryphons fall to 4-1-0 on the season, while the Lions improve to 2-2-0. Gryphons All-Canadian goalie, Martina Fedel, made 17 saves in the loss. The Gryphons outshot the Lions 22-17 on the night. The Gryphons, ranked No. 4 in the latest U SPORTS rankings, will return to action on Halloween night (Thursday, Oct. 31) with a short road trip to Waterloo to face the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks (2-1-0).
