OSHAWA, Ont. – The Gryphons women's hockey team got their new season off on a winning note with a 3-0 road win over the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on Friday night (Oct. 11) in Oshawa. The game, which marked the 2024-25 OUA regular season opener for both teams, saw the visiting Gryphons score late in the 1st period and late in the 2nd period before adding an empty netter to cap off the 3-0 win. Gryphons third-year forward,
Alexie Olivier (Sudbury, ON), scored the Gryphons first goal of the new season, firing a shot into the top corner with just over a minute remaining in the opening period of play. The Gryphons would double their lead in the 2nd, after a great pass from rookie forward
Michelle Gao (Ottawa, ON) onto the tape of second-year forward
Katelyn Dance (Aylmer, ON) to put Guelph up 2-0.
Gryphons fourth-year goalie,
Martina Fedel, picked up right where she left off after her U SPORTS First Team All-Canadian season a year ago, with Fedel turning away all 25 shots sent her way for the shutout.
The Gryphons (1-0-0) will be back in action on Saturday night (Oct. 12) with a road trip to Kingston to face the Queen's Gaels. It will mark the season opener for the Gaels, who were idle on Friday night. Puck drop in Kingston is set for 7:30pm on Saturday night and can be seen live online at
