MHKY RECAP: Gryphons Drop First of Back-to-Back Home Matchups with Nipissing

GUELPH, Ont. – Friday night at the Gryphon Centre Arena, the Gryphons men's hockey team were on the wrong end of a 5-1 score line in a home matchup versus the Nipissing Lakers. With the game tied at 1-1 late in the 2nd period, the visitors from North Bay would score a pair of power play goals :24 seconds apart to take a 3-1 lead into the final period. The Lakers would add two more goals in the 3rd period, skating to a 5-1 victory over the Gryphons in the first of back-to-back matchups in Guelph between the two teams.
 
Gryphons fourth-year defenceman, Duncan Penman (Oakville, ON) was the Gryphons lone goal scorer on the night, with his first goal of the season coming on the power play in the 2nd period. Gryphons goalie Tanner Wickware (Milton, ON) made 27 saves on 31 shots in the loss.
 
With the loss, the Gryphons fall to 1-2-0 on the season, while the Nipissing Lakers improve to 1-2-0. The Gryphons and Lakers will square off again on Saturday night (Oct. 12) at the Gryphon Centre Arena, with puck drop set for 7:30pm.
