MSCR RECAP: Gryphons Bounce Back With 2-1 Win Over the Lancers

GUELPH, Ont. - Friday night at the Gryphon Soccer Complex the Guelph Gryphons men's soccer team took down the Windsor Lancers 2-1, gaining on their OUA West Division rivals in the standings.

The Gryphons came into Friday's match coming off of a hard fought loss to the Brock Badgers in St. Catharines and looking to get back into the win column. The Gryphons got off to a hot start with Damian Truong scoring his third goal of the season in the 20th minute. The lead was short lived however, with the Lancers striking back less than four minutes later to bring the match to a 1-1 draw. Despite the Gryphons keeping the pressure on the visiting team with a trio of shots from midfielder Gray Yates, who finished the game with four total. Coming out of the half, the team continued to play in the Windsor zone and were rewarded with four scoring chances from corner kicks put came up empty. In the 60th minute the Gryphons would retake the lead thanks to first-year Ottawa native Martin Popp scoring his first goal of his OUA career to make it a 2-1 game. The Gryphons continued their dominant play until the final whistle when they officially got back into the win column.

The Gryphons will return to action on Sunday, when they take on the Windsor Lancers again, this time in Windsor at Alumni Stadium. The game, which is set to begin at 3:15pm, can be seen live online at ww.oua.tv
