WHAT: On Sunday, May 28, 2023, community members from across the City of Guelph will have the opportunity to interact with the reigning Grey Cup champion, Toronto Argonauts, as part of the "
BIG Downtown Food Truck Picnic" held at Guelph's Exhibition Park. The Argos, who are
once again calling the University of Guelph home in the spring of 2023 for their training camp as well as a June 1 preseason game, will have various activiations set up at Exhibition Park throughout the afternoon, including having a Grey Cup photo booth on site, giving fans an opportunity to have their picture taken with the oldest professional football trophy in North America. The "
BIG Downtown Food Truck Picnic" has been running since 2016, with a portion of food and drink proceeds going towards Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guelph. The family-friendly community event on Sunday, May 28 is free to attend, with 9 different food trucks, as well as a beer tent, on site for the day at Exhibition Park.
WHO: Several members from the reigning Grey Cup champion Toronto Argonauts will be on hand on Sunday afternoon, including former Guelph Gryphon and current Argos defensive back Royce Metchie, Guelph native and Argos receiver Tommy Nield, Argos quarterback Chad Kelly, Argos defensive lineman Robbie Smith as well as Argonauts alumni. The
Argonauts players will be on site at Exhibition Park from approximately 1:45pm to 2:45pm and will be available to the media at that time. Other activations taking place on May 28 include appearances from the "A Team" (Argos cheerleaders), as well as Argos team mascot "Jason the Argonaut." Guelph community members will also be able to purchase tickets for the upcoming CFL preseason game taking place in Guelph, which will kickoff on Thursday, June 1, 2023 when the Toronto Argonauts host the Ottawa REDBLACKS at the University of Guelph's Alumni Stadium (7pm start, gates open at 6pm). A portion of the proceeds from Argos tickets sold on site on Sunday afternoon will be donated back to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guelph.

WHY: With the Toronto Argonauts CFL preseason game in Guelph just around the corner (Thursday, June 1, 2023 – 7pm at the University of Guelph's Alumni Stadium), taking part in the "BIG Downtown Food Truck Picnic" on Sunday, May 28 is the perfect opportunity for the Argonauts players and organization as a whole to interact with the Guelph community as a way to say 'thank you' for the outstanding support Guelph has shown to the Argos over the years. It is also a great opportunity to grow excitement and awareness for the upcoming June 1 CFL preseason game being played in Guelph.
