WBB RECAP: Gryphons Fall to Windsor 75-56 on Saturday Night

GUELPH, Ont. – On Saturday night (Feb. 11) the Guelph Gryphons women's basketball team played host to the Windsor Lancers in an OUA West Divisional matchup. The U of G women came into the game coming off a 78-63 win over the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks the night before and looking to pick up their 3rd win in a row. Tatjana Boskovic vs WindsorIt proved to not be the Gryphons night as shooting struggles would allow the Lancers to leave Guelph with a 75-56 victory.

The first quarter saw the Lancers jump out to an early lead before standout senior MacKeely Shantz sent a jolt of energy into the Gryphon offence scoring on back-to-back offensive possessions. Shantz would go on to score a team-high 15 points. By the end of the 1st the Gryphons would come back to force a 16-16 tie. Despite battling back the Gryphons would shoot 28% from the field in the second quarter to find themselves in a 42-29 hole at the half.

The Gryphons shooting woes would continue in the second half, shooting 35% in the third and 40% in the fourth. Aside from Shantz, Renee Armstrong would the only Gryphon to reach the double-digit mark, scoring 12 points on 50% shooting to go along with her 4 assists. As a team the Gryphons shot 34% from the field and an uncharacteristic 20% from beyond the arc in the loss.

The Gryphons (14-6) will look to bounce back on Wednesday (Feb. 15) next week when they play their final regular season home game against the Western Mustangs for the annual 'She's Got Game' game. Tipoff is set for 6pm with tickets available at https://gryphonstickets.universitytickets.com/https://gryphonstickets.universitytickets.com/. The game can also be seen live, online at www.oua.tv.
