GUELPH, Ont. –The Guelph Gryphons men's basketball team took the court at the Gryphon Athletic Centre on Sunday afternoon (Jan. 29) for the Gryphon "Shoot for Change" game in support of the OUA's Anti-Racism Week. The Gryphons played host to the Nipissing University Lakers who's Black Association for Student Expression created the 'Shoot for Change' Initiative. The Gryphons and Lakers played a physical, hard-fought game that would come to a close with a 107-89 Gryphon victory.
The game opened with both teams coming out of the gates hot, with the Gryphons shooting 60% and the Lakers shooting 65% from the field. Despite shooting 5-for-10 from beyond the arc the opening frame would come to an end with the Gryphons trailing Nipissing by three.

The Gryphons would respond well however, outscoring the Lakers 29-20 to take a halftime lead. The second quarter effort would be led by 5
th-year guard
Rasheed Weekes who would score 10 of his game-high 29 points in the second frame. In addition to his impressive point total, Weekes would also bring in 6 rebounds.
The third quarter would see the Gryphs continue their impressive play, extending their lead after outscoring the Lakers 32-21 while shooting 53% from the field and 44% from beyond the arc. The third would see another U of G player post a strong point total.
Khalid Ismail would score 11 of his 13 total points in the third while shooting 100% from the field. Despite paying a tightly contested fourth quarter the gryphons would take the win 107-89.
The Gryphons would receive standout performances from several players on the roster, including five reaching double-digit points. Led by Weekes (29),
Khalid Ismail (13),
Dylan McFee (12),
Carl Veltmann (10), and
Dezayne Mingo (16) would all reach the 10-point mark.
Dezayne Mingo, a rookie guard from Hamilton, would post the first Gryphon triple-double in at least 15 years, scoring 16 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists.
The Gryphons (7-9) will return to the court at the Gryphon Athletic Centre next Friday (Feb. 3) when they play host to the nation's No. 4-ranked team, the Queen's Gaels. Tip-off is set for 6pm with tickets available at
