GUELPH, Ont. – On Sunday afternoon at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre, the Gryphons women's volleyball team put together their most complete performance of the 2021-22 season, winning in straight sets over one of the top teams in the OUA West Division in the visiting McMaster Marauders. Set scores were 25-22, 29-27 & 25-19 in favour of the Gryphons, who pick up their first win of the season to improve to 1-7, while McMaster falls to 7-4. With the win, the Gryphons remain mathematically alive in their pursuit of a playoff berth with just two games remaining in the 2021-22 regular season schedule.
Leading the way for the Gryphons on Sunday afternoon were veterans
Jessica Chung (team-high 11 pts on 8 kills, 2 aces, 1 block stuff) and
Lisa Wedel (10 pts on 9 kills and 1 block stuff). Standout rookie
Sophie Fernback continued to impress in her first season in the OUA, recording 9 kills and 10 digs, while OUA all-star setter,
Alex Curran, was in top form, racking up 36 assists. Fifth-year libero,
Ashley Vang, recorded a match-high 17 digs.

Vang, a psychology major from Kitchener, leads the OUA in digs-per-set (5.28) and impressed in both of Guelph's matchups versus McMaster this week, with the Gryphon libero also having recorded a match-high 28 digs during the meeting in Hamilton on Friday night (Feb. 25).
Up next for the Gryphons, a pair of home games to close out their 2021-22 regular season schedule. The Gryphons host the Western Mustangs on Thursday night (March 3 – 6pm), followed by a Sunday afternoon matchup in Guelph versus the Windsor Lancers (March 6 – 1pm). Both games can be seen live online at OUA.tv.
