GUELPH, Ont. - For just the second time in seven regular season games played this season, the Gryphons women's hockey team suffered a loss in regulation. Friday night at the Gryphon Centre Arena, the visiting Windsor Lancers escaped with a hard-fought 2-1 win over the Gryphons. With the game tied at 1-1 in the 2nd period, the Lancers scored the go-ahead goal when Windsor forward Maggi DeWolf-Russ scored her second goal of the game late in the 2nd period. The Gryphons, who outshot the Lancers 21-14 on the night, would make a late push, generating several good scoring chances in the 3rd period, but were ultimately unable to find the tying goal, with Windsor hanging on for the 2-1 win, with all three goals in the game coming during an eventful 2nd period. The lone Gryphon goal of the night came from second-year forward,
Tori Verbeek, who scored for the second time in the past three games. With the loss, the Gryphons fall to 3-2-2 (wins-losses-OT/SO losses) on the season, while the Lancers improve to 4-3-0. The Gryphons are right back in action once again on Saturday (Nov. 12) as they head to the University of Toronto to face the OUA East-leading and No. 4-nationally ranked Toronto Varsity Blues. Puck drop is set for 7:30pm on Saturday night and can be seen live online at www.oua.tv.
