GUELPH, Ont. – The Guelph Gryphons men's rugby team took another step closer to defending their 2021 OUA championship on Saturday afternoon. On a cool, clear afternoon at the University of Guelph's grass rugby pitch, the Gryphons held on in a back-and-forth game for a 34-33 victory over the Brock Badgers in OUA quarterfinal action. The Gryphons led 24-14 at halftime following a first half that saw both teams trade possessions and scores before the Gryphs pulled ahead. The second half saw the Gryphons come out fast, scoring two tries to extend their lead to 34-14. After trading possessions, the Badgers would rally for a comeback attempt, scoring three tries in the final minutes before the Gryphons would regain control of the game and survive the late comeback attempt. Jack Morris (2), Stephen Charles Trollip, Kobe Faust, Collin Smibert, and Tomas Dallan all recorded tries for the Gryphons. The team will now head to London to take on the Western Mustangs in the OUA semifinals next Sunday (Nov. 6), with kickoff set for 1pm.
