GUELPH, Ont. - A memorable 2022 season for the Gryphon field hockey team came to an end on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 22) in the OUA semifinals. Playing host to the No. 4-ranked York Lions in the conference semifinals, the No. 3-ranked Gryphons were on the wrong end of a 1-0 score line at the University of Guelph's Varsity Field. York Lions second-year forward, Lexi Hannah, scored the only goal of the game in the 28th minute, helping the visiting Lions book a spot in next weekend's OUA gold medal game. For the Gryphons, the loss marks the end of an incredible streak of consecutive appearances in the OUA final, with Guelph having advanced to the OUA gold medal game every year since 2007. The loss also marked Guelph's second loss of the season, with Guelph having posted a 7-1-2 record during the regular season, including a tie versus York in the team's only other meeting this season.Â
