GUELPH, Ont. - The playoff-bound Gryphons men's soccer team wrapped up their regular season schedule in style on Friday night (Oct. 21) at the Gryphon Soccer Complex. The Gryphons scored three second half goals in a convincing 4-0 win over the Windsor Lancers, with
Leo Shrimpton,
Colin Gander,
Ambrose Tinmouth and
Owen McKee accounting for the U of G goals on the night. With the win, the Gryphons finish the 12-game regular season with a 6-1-5 (wins-losses-draws) record, while the Lancers 2022 season comes to an end with a 1-9-2 record. The defending OUA champion Gryphons, ranked No. 9 in the country in the latest U SPORTS Top 10 polls, will now have to wait a few days to see where they fall in the final OUA West Division standings. The Gryphons currently sit 2nd in the OUA West, just one point ahead of McMaster, but the Marauders still have their final regular season game to play, when they host Laurier on Sunday in Hamilton. The Mustangs, currently 4th, are also in striking distance of catching Guelph (2 points back), but a tough road trip remains for the Mustangs in their season finale, as they will travel to York on Sunday to face the No. 1-nationally ranked Lions. If the Gryphons finish 2nd, they will receive a bye and host an OUA quarterfinal on Oct. 29. Should the Marauders or Mustangs leapfrog Guelph on Sunday, then the Gryphs will be in action on Wednesday night (Oct. 26) to host first-round playoff action.
