MSCR RECAP: Gryphons Win 1-0 Over Brock

GUELPH, Ont. - Friday night (Oct. 14) at the Gryphon Soccer Complex, the No. 8-ranked Gryphons men's soccer team earned a 1-0 victory over the Brock Badgers, with the lone goal of the match coming from standout midfielder, Jack Sears, in the 23rd minute of play. From outside the 18-yard box, Sears sent a beautiful strike past Brock goalkeeper Taylor Miskolczi, giving the Gryphons the lead and giving Sears his 4th goal of the 2022 season. It would prove to be the only goal of the night, with the Gryphons preserving their second clean sheet in their past three matches, with Leighton Jull recording the shutout in net for the Gryphs.

With the win, the Gryphons improve to 5-1-4 (wins-losses-draws) on the season and sit just one-point back of Western for 2nd-place in the OUA West Division standings. Brock meanwhile, who entered the night just one-point back of Guelph, now sit four points behind the Gryphons, with the Badgers sitting 5th in the 9-team OUA West Division standings at 4-3-3. The two teams will wrap up their home-and-home series on Sunday afternoon in St. Catharines (3:15pm kickoff). The defending OUA champion Gryphons have just two games remaining in their 2022 regular season schedule, and will close out their regular season at home on Friday, October 21 when the Windsor Lancers visit the Gryphon Soccer Complex.
