Gryphons Men’s Rugby Program to Honour Luke MacDonald During Oct. 15 Game vs Queen’s

GUELPH, Ont. – At 1pm on Saturday, October 15, 2022, the Guelph Gryphons and Queen's Gaels will square off on the University of Guelph's grass rugby pitch in what will be the most important matchup of the 2022 regular season schedule in OUA men's rugby. But of even greater significance, is what is happening off of the rugby pitch that day. In honour of their late teammate, Luke MacDonald, the Gryphons men's rugby team will be honouring Luke's life prior to the match while also helping raise awareness and funds for men's mental health. Gryphon fans, family and friends interested in supporting the cause are encouraged to visit gryphons.ca/tickets, where 100% of proceeds made through the purchase of tickets will go towards HeadsUpGuys, an organization dedicated to health strategies for managing and preventing depression.

Both the Gryphons and Gaels enter this Saturday's matchup with identical 4-0 records. The two teams met last year in the OUA championship game, with Guelph winning 37-26 in Kingston to claim the Turner Trophy for the fourth OUA title in U of G men's rugby program history. This Saturday's match also marks the final home game of the 2022 regular season schedule for the Gryphons men's rugby team, who will close out their six-game regular season on October 22 when they travel to St. Catharines to face the Brock Badgers. The 2022 OUA men's rugby playoffs are set to get underway on October 29 (quarterfinals – top two teams in the conference receive byes), with the semifinals and championship game to follow on November 5 and 12, respectively.
