MVB RECAP: Gryphons Fall in Four Sets in Sunday Afternoon Matchup versus Brock

GUELPH, Ont. – Sunday afternoon (November 28) at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre, the Gryphons men's volleyball team suffered a 3-sets-to-1 loss to the Brock Badgers. Set scores were 25-23, 13-25, 19-25 & 23-25. With the result, Brock improves to 4-2 on the season while the Gryphons fall to 0-5.

Leading the way for the Gryphons on Sunday afternoon was second-year economics major, Alexander Odle (Burlington, ON) who racked up a team-high 17 points (16 kills, 1 ace, 4 digs). Johnathan Pickett also impressed on the day for the Gryphons, with the Wiarton, Ontario native recording a .409 hitting percentage while picking up 11 kills. Third-year setter Gideon Dresser tallied 38 assists and helped the Gryphons take the opening set versus the Badgers. After Brock battled back to take the 2nd and 3rd sets, the Gryphons were in position to force a fifth and deciding set, leading 23-22 in the 4th set. However, back-to-back kills by Jacob Ferland and Logan House of Brock put the Badgers back in front, with Brock ultimately sealing the match by taking a tight 4th set 25-23.

The Gryphons (0-5) will now break for Christmas, but will return to action on Sunday, January 16, 2022 when they host the Windsor Lancers. In total, the Gryphons will play 14 games as part of their 2021-22 OUA regular season schedule, with the OUA men's volleyball playoffs set to get underway in early March.
