BURLINGTON, Ont. – On Wednesday, January 22, Ontario University Athletics officially announced the regular season schedule for the 2020 OUA football season.
 
The Guelph Gryphons will officially kickoff their 2020 campaign on a Sunday afternoon in late August with a road game at York University. Alumni StadiumThe Gryphons will then return to Guelph for back-to-back home games in Weeks 2 and 3, with the Waterloo Warriors and Laurier Golden Hawks both visiting Alumni Stadium.
 
The September 6 home opener versus Waterloo also serves as the Gryphons annual "O-Week" game, with kickoff set for 6pm.
 
After having not faced each other during the 2019 season, the Gryphons and Golden Hawks will resume their rivalry in 2020 with a matchup on Saturday, September 12 at Alumni Stadium in the Gryphons annual Community Day game.
 
The 2020 edition of the University of Guelph's Homecoming football game is scheduled for Saturday, September 26 when the University of Toronto Varsity Blues roll into town for one of the most anticipated homecomings in all of U SPORTS. The home portion of the Gryphons 2020 regular season schedule is rounded out by an appearance from the Carleton Ravens on Saturday, October 17 in a game that marks not only the regular season finale for the Gryphons, but also a special day with regards to the history of the stadium which the Gryphons call home. 2019 HomecomingThe Gryphons-Ravens matchup will mark exactly 50 years to the day that the University of Guelph football teams began calling Alumni Stadium home, with the first game played at the venue coming back on October 17, 1970 versus Waterloo Lutheran University.
 
Marquee road games on the Gryphons 2020 schedule include a September 19 trip to Western for a Saturday night matchup with the Mustangs, followed by an October 3 trip to Hamilton to face the defending Yates Cup champion McMaster Marauders. The Gryphons will also return to Gee-Gees' Field in Ottawa for a Friday night kickoff on October 9, which will mark the team's game back at the University of Ottawa since their dramatic 27-22 OUA semi-final victory over the Gee-Gees back on Nov. 3, 2018. The Gryphons bye week falls during the final week of the 2020 OUA regular season, during the week of Saturday, October 24. The possibility of the Gryphons also hosting a national semi-final game is in play in 2020, with the Yates Cup champion set to play host to the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) champion in the 2020 Mitchell Bowl on November 21. The 2020 U SPORTS football season will culminate on Saturday, November 28 in the playing of the 56th Vanier Cup, with a host yet to be determined.
