GUELPH, Ont. - The scoring came early and often Saturday afternoon for the Guelph Gryphons women's rugby team as they worked their way back into the win column. Playing host to the Western Mustangs, the Gryphons romped to a 119-0 victory over the visitors from London. In the opening minute of the match Guelph set the tone with a try from Emmanuela Jada. After that, it was all hands on deck for the home side as they continued to build more and more momentum all match long. Leading the way for the Gryphons, Talia Hoffman scored six tries in the contest and Aliesha Lewis tallied four of her own.
"We started out strong. We talked about resilience, we had a bit of a let down last week and we worked really hard to fix some of the mistakes and just work on execution and the preciseness of our passing and precision of our set pieces," says Gryphon head coach Colette McAuley. "We were able to execute that today. We were really happy with the whole team effort. They wanted a little bit of retribution and to show themselves and their teammates what kind of rugby they can play. It was exciting rugby and everyone got lots of touches on the ball."
With a 2-1 record, the Gryphons sit second place in the Shiels Division. Next up for Guelph will be a trip to St. Catharines on Saturday to take on the Brock Badgers. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00pm.
