OTTAWA, Ont. – A quartet of Gryphon football players were part of the victorious Team West at the 2019 U SPORTS East-West Bowl. The annual all-star game, which features the top prospects in Canadian university football who are eligible for the 2020 CFL Draft, took place on Saturday, May 11 at Carleton's MNP Park stadium. Team West, which featured four Gryphons in receiver
Kian Schaffer-Baker, defensive back
Dotun Aketepe, defensive end
Carter Wilson and offensive lineman
Coulter Woodmansey, won 35-17 over Team East. Saturday's game marked the 17th edition of the event, which began in 2003.

Schaffer-Baker, a third-year receiver from the University of Guelph, produced one of the standout performances of the weekend, hauling in 5 receptions for 126 yards and a touchdown.

The 6-foot-4, 200 lbs Mississauga native was the leading receiver in the game.
"It was a phenomenal experience," says Schaffer-Baker, a psychology major who has
become known for his highlight reel catches during his time at U of G. "You have such great talent at every position, so the competitiveness and energy throughout practices were great. Everyone's trying to soak up as much as they can and enhance their game. Learning from CFL coaches, other U SPORTS coaches, and former Hall of Fame players gave us different tools that we can add onto our game."
Dotun Aketepe and Carter Wilson both recorded tackles, while Coulter Woodmansey helped lead the way for a Team West offensive line that helped starting quarterback Adam Sinagra (Calgary Dinos) earn MVP honours (13-19, 320 yards, 2 TD, 0 INT).
It was the fourth straight victory for the West and improved their record to 11-6 in the annual Canadian Football League top prospects game since the event began in 2003.
The result was a West squad that fell just two points short of the all-time East-West Bowl point total record by a single team of 37 set by Team West in 2017.
