GUELPH, Ont. – Not many OUA teams can get a result like the defending conference champion Guelph Gryphons women's soccer side. The undefeated Gryphons didn't get all the points they were looking for but they did hold yet another team in a 0-0 draw with the Brock Badgers on Gryphon Soccer Day on the U of G campus.
With several Jr Gryphons and alumni in the stands to celebrate the Gryphon partnership with the Guelph Soccer Association, the OUA West leaders clearly looked for the goal that would win it. Guelph had 15 shots in the game (seven on target) and struck the post or crossbar on three different occasions, though the breakthrough never came.

The Gryphons had a good chance in the 90
th minute when
Victoria Hinchliffe took a ball in the box and swiveled to hit a looping left-footed strike but it went high over goalkeeper Marilena Spagnolo's net. And with four minutes added on, the Badgers went on a rare second-half attack. Guelph's OUA West First Team All-star keeper
Libby Brenneman easily caught a hard shot from Brianne Desa for her second save of the afternoon, while also preserving another clean sheet. Brenneman has not allowed a goal all season, and the Gryphons still have conceded just once through 10 matches.
Guelph was comfortable going forward for much of the second half. It was just too difficult for the Gryphons to get through Brock's packed formation.
Gryphon Take
"We were close on several occasions. We've closed out tight games and today, the ball just didn't go for us. In terms of chance creation and opportunities in the box, I thought we were excellent. You have to sometimes accept that despite everything you want to create, it doesn't go the way you want it to go and today that was the case."
"In the second half, we were dominant. I don't know how many times they got out of their end. Defensively, we did everything we needed to do. There was lots to be happy about, it was just one of those days that we couldn't put the ball in the back of the net. I can't fault the girls. Their performance was very good, their effort and attitude was very good." –
