OTTAWA, Ont. – For the first time in 15 years, a Guelph Gryphons women's soccer player has been named an All-Canadian.
Wednesday night in Ottawa at the annual All-Canadian gala, third-year striker
Victoria Hinchliffe was named a U SPORTS First Team All-Canadian, becoming the first Gryphon since Stephanie MacKenzie in 2003 to be recognized at the national level.
Victoria Hinchliffe's 2018 campaign saw her finish the regular season as the country's third-leading scorer with 12 goals in 16 games, earning her OUA West MVP honours.
While her goal-scoring record speaks for itself, it is her contributions at the other end of the pitch that make her truly special according to head coach Shayne Campbell,

"There are not many attacking players who work as hard in the defending phase of the game as Hinch. We ask a lot of her on both sides and she is always willing to put that kind of work in. It's just the kind of player she is.
"Hinch has never stopped wanting to improve herself as a player. This year she and assistant coach, Onkar Dhillon, worked quite a bit to develop other aspects of her game. She is seeing the game more now and can set up others as well. She has just continued to adapt and learn different ways to help the team."
In her first three seasons at U of G, the Guelph native has put together an impressive list of accomplishments. As a rookie in 2016, the Human Kinetics major became the first Gryphon women's soccer player to be named OUA West Rookie of the Year. As a sophomore in 2017, she helped lead her team secure the first conference title in program history, scoring four goals in three OUA playoff games, while also converting the winning penalty kicks in both the semi-finals and gold medal matches. And now, in her third season at U of G, Victoria Hinchliffe has achieved All-Canadian status just one week after having became the first Gryphons women's soccer player ever to earn the title of OUA West MVP.
