GUELPH, Ont. – The Guelph Gryphons women's volleyball team will not play an OUA regular season game on their home court again until mid-January. They made sure to leave on a high note before embarking on their upcoming six-game road trip. Sunday afternoon at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre, the Gryphons picked up a convincing straight sets victory over the Windsor Lancers. Set scores were 26-24, 25-20 & 25-10.
Michaela Hellinga led the Gryphon attack (18 points, 14 kills) with
Lisa Wedel and
Noa Pijl each racking up 13 points. Second-year libera
Tara Tanasijevic continued her strong play, recording 18 digs Sunday versus the Lancers. The Toronto native, who also racked up 27 digs versus the Mustangs on Saturday, currently leads the OUA in both total digs (96) and digs per set (6.4).
The next six games for the Gryphons (2-2) all come on the road, beginning with a trip to Thunder Bay for a back-to-back with Lakehead on November 16 and 17.
Gryphon Take
"Windsor came out with a lot of energy at the start but we were able to weather their initial push and steal that first set. After that, our serving and serve receive was steady and that allowed us to play consistently in the second and third sets. Tara (Tanasijevic) was especially solid for us today." –
head coach Paul Funk
