WINDSOR, Ont. – A win would have been nice. But the Guelph Gryphons men's soccer team wasn't exactly concerned with the OUA entering the final game of the regular season in Windsor Sunday afternoon. The Gryphons were far from their best and dropped a 4-1 decision to the Lancers, who qualified for the postseason with the win
Johnson Amoo scored the lone goal for Guelph, which lost for just the fourth time all season.
The Gryphons finished second in the OUA West after completing the hard work Friday night. Knowing it would host an OUA quarter-final at home next weekend, thanks to a late winner in London, the Gryphons entered the game with Windsor stress free.
But the Lancers weren't so fortunate. Windsor desperately needed the win and built a 2-0 lead on goals from Kyle Ruggaber and Stefan Milidrag in the 50
th and 66
th minutes respectively. Amoo would get one back in the 73
rd, his sixth of the year, which tied the talented striker with
Mitchell Lefebvre for second most on the team behind
Jace Kotsopoulos's OUA-leading 15.
The Lancers struck again minutes later when Jamar Redhead found the back of the net and Shawn Hunter followed with Windsor's fourth 10 minutes later.
Guelph finished the season with 38 goals, second most in the OUA west behind the first-place York Lions, while conceding 17.
The Record
Guelph is 10-4-2.
