MHKY: No. 4-ranked Rams Defeat Gryphs in First Half of Home-and-Home

TORONTO, ON - Tuesday night in Toronto, the Gryphons men's hockey team suffered a 5-2 loss to the No. 4-ranked Ryerson Rams. The Gryphons do not have to wait long for their chance at revenge. The Gryphons and Rams are scheduled to meet again on Thursday night at the Gryphon Centre in what will serve as the final game of the regular season for both teams.

The Ryerson Rams came into Tuesday night's game having lost just once in 13 home games. But in the opening period, the Rams were in the unfamiliar position of trailing at the Mattamy Athletic Centre when the Gryphons opened the scoring midway through the 1st. Seth Swenson extended his goal scoring streak to three games with his 11th goal of the season to give the visiting Gryphs a 1-0 lead. The Rams would tie the game at 1-1 with a power play goal later in the period. The 2nd period was a scoreless affair. The Gryphons and first-place Rams were knotted at 1-1 heading to the 3rd period.

Ryerson would open the 3rd period with three goals in the opening 12 minutes to take a commanding 4-1 lead. With just over a minute remaining in regulation, Rob Lepine would score his team-leading 15th goal of the season to trim the lead to 4-2. An empty net goal from the Rams with 11 seconds remaining to cap the scoring. With the 5-2 win, the Rams improve to 21-4-2 on the season while the Gryphons fall to 15-11-2.

The second half of the back-to-back will take place Thursday night at the Gryphon Centre. Puck drop is set for 7:30pm.
