Megan Brenkel (Thornhill, ON) scored a career-high 21 points while helping to lead the Gryphons to a weekend sweep of their northern Ontario road trip. The victory was the team's second in as many days following a win Friday night in North Bay versus Nipissing.
After a tight opening half of play, which saw the Gryphons take a one-point lead into the locker room at the break, the Gryphons would pull away in the second half, outscoring the Voyageurs by 13 over the final two quarters of play. Third year guard
Samantha Renshaw scored all 15 of her points in the second half. The Gryphons were clicking on all cylinders offensively in the second half, shooting 57.1% as a team from the floor (16-28) while also going 2-for-3 from beyond the arc. Second year forward
Abbey Clark had a career-high 14 points and 9 rebounds off the bench, while
Sarah Holmes had a team-high 12 rebounds to go along with 8 points.
The Gryphons set several new season-highs on Saturday, including points scored (77), rebounds (51) and free throw percentage (78.3% on 18-23 shooting from the charity stripe). U of G have now won three of their last four games overall to improve to 4-12 on the season. The Gryphons are still very much alive in the playoff hunt with three games remaining on their regular season schedule. All three of those games will come on home court, beginning with a Friday night matchup with Lakehead (Feb. 10).
