MVB: Gryphons Sweep Varsitly Blues and Clinch Home Court in OUA Quarter-finals

TORONTO, ON – The Gryphons men's volleyball team entered Saturday night's match at U of T controlling their own destiny when it came to securing home court advantage in the opening round of the OUA playoffs. And they made sure to take care of business. Saturday evening at the Goldring Centre on the campus of the University of Toronto, the Gryphons picked up a straight sets victory over the Varsity Blues. Set scores were 25-17, 25-22 & 25-22. With the result, the Gryphons finish the season 2nd in the OUA West with a 12-5 record and will have home court advantage for their OUA Quarter-final match on Saturday, March 4th. The Varsity Blues meanwhile finish the season with a 6-12 record and do not qualify for the OUA postseason.

Kendrick Kerr led a balanced attack for the Gryphons, finishing with a team-high 15 points (9 kills, 6 blocks). Jared Harris, Zach Newman and Sam Nothnagel all finished in double figures in scoring with 10 points apiece. The Gryphons 12-wins during the regular season is their highest regular season win total since the 2010-2011 campaign when the team posted a 15-5 record. The Gryphons will now prepare for the program's first playoff appearance in five years. Their OUA Quarter-final matchup on Saturday, March 4th will also mark the first postseason game at the new Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre.
