PETERBOROUGH, ON - Friday night at the Trent Athletics Centre in Peterborough, the Gryphons men's volleyball team picked up a straight sets victory over the Trent Excalibur. Set scores were 25-19, 25-15 & 25-23. With the result, the Gryphons improve to 11-5 on the season, while the Trent Excalibur fall to 0-17.
Josh Green led the Gryphons with 12 points (9 kills, 2 aces, 1 block) while
Kendrick Kerr had a kill percentage of .800 with 8 kills on 10 total attacks. 14 different players saw playing time for the Gryphons who now have just one game remaining on their regular season schedule. The Gryphons will close out their schedule Saturday night at the University of Toronto in a game that is full of playoff implications.
The Gryphons will be battling for home court in the opening round of the OUA playoffs. Currently, both the Gryphons and the Western Mustangs boast 11-5 records and are battling for the right to host a playoff game next weekend. The Gryphons control their own destiny as they hold the tiebreaker with the Mustangs. A win over U of T (6-11), and the Gryphons will host the first ever playoff game in the new Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre. Western closes out their season on the road against the first-place York Lions (14-3).
