TORONTO, ON - Friday night at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto, the Gryphons men's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss to the Ryerson Rams. Set scores were 22-25, 16-25 & 17-25. With the loss, the Gryphons have their four-game win streak come to an end and fall to 10-5 on the season. The Rams meanwhile improve to 12-5 and sit in first place in the OUA's East Division.
Friday night the Gryphons were playing in their first road game since November 25th. After opening the New Year with seven straight home games, the Gryphs made their way to Toronto for the first of three straight road games to end the regular season schedule. After going toe-to-toe with the high-powered Rams in a tight opening set, Ryerson was able to pull away in the next two sets to hand the Gryphons a straight sets defeat. Leading the way for the Gryphons on Friday night was
Kendrick Kerr with a team-high 11 points (7 kills, 2 aces, 3 blocks).Â
The Gryphons (10-5) remain in second place in the OUA West, with Western (9-5) close behind in third. The Gryphs will finish off their regular season schedule next weekend with a pair of road games at Trent (Feb. 24) and Toronto (Feb. 25). The opening round of the OUA men's volleyball playoffs is set for the weekend of March 3rd and 4th.
