WHKY: Warriors Snap Gryphons 10-game Win Streak


WATERLOO, ON - Sunday afternoon at the Columbia Ice Field Arena on the campus of the University of Waterloo, the No. 2-ranked Gryphons women's hockey team suffered a 3-0 loss to the Warriors. The result snapped the Gryphons 10-game win streak and marked the team's first loss since November 18, 2016. The Warriors led 1-0 after the opening period of play before adding two more goals in the 2nd period to extend the lead to 3-0. Warriors goalie Taylor Reimer turned away 25 shots sent her way for the shutout. Reimer leads the OUA in goals against average (1.17) as well as save percentage (.950). Gryphs goalie Valerie Lamenta meanwhile, who ranks 3rd in the OUA in goals against average (1.37) made 16 saves on 19 shots while suffering just her fourth loss of the seaso (13-4-0). 

Playing for a second time in as many days, the Gryphs were unable to solve the Warriors star netminder despite the fact they outshot Waterloo 25-19 on the night. Despite the loss, the Gryphons (18-3-1) remain in first place in the OUA standings, three points clear of second place Nipissing. The Gryphs now have just two games remaining in their regular season schedule, both of which will come at the Gryphon Centre. After hosting Windsor (11-9-2) on Saturday, February 18, the Gryphs will end their regular season schedule with a much-anticipated matchup with the No. 9-ranked Nipissing Lakers (16-3-3) on Sunday, February 19.
