OTTAWA, Ont. – Friday night in Ottawa, the Gryphons men's basketball team suffered a 96-52 loss to the No. 1-ranked Carleton Ravens.
After also squaring off against Carleton during a preseason tournament in Victoria, Friday night's game marked the Gryphons' second meeting in just over a month with the perennial power Ravens. Friday night's game also marked the season opener for the Ravens, who got off to a fast start with 26 points in the opening quarter to take a 12-point lead.
The Gryphons would tighten up defensively in the 2nd quarter, limiting Carleton to just 16 points. However, the Ravens would pour it on in the 2nd half, outscoring the Gryphons 54-26.
The Ravens, winners of seven straight national titles, shot 50% from the floor and force the Gryphons into 24 turnovers on the night while committing just 11 themselves.
Senior guard
Taylor Boers was the lone Gryphon to score in double figures, finishing with 11 points while going 3-6 from beyond the arc.
The Gryphons will wrap up their two-day weekend trip to the nation's capital with a Saturday night matchup with the No. 9-ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees, who are sitting at 1-0 on the season after a win over Algoma in their season opener on Friday night. The Gryphons and Gee-Gees will tip off at Ottawa's Montpetit Hall Saturday at 8pm.
