WVB: Gryphons Fall in Four Sets at York

TORONTO, Ont. – Saturday night at the Tait McKenzie Centre on the campus of York University, the Gryphons women's volleyball team suffered a 3-sets-to-1 loss to the York Lions. Set scores were 15-25, 25-21, 21-25 & 19-25. With the result, the Gryphons fall to 1-6 on the season while York improves to 3-2.

"We were our own worst enemy tonight in terms of errors," said Gryphons head coach Paul Funk. "We had periods of good play but we haven't connected enough of those stretches together to get positive results."

The Gryphons were led by third year right side Laura Duncan (Whitby, ON) who had a team-high 13 points (11 kills, 4 block assists). Rookie Hazel Atkins (Vancouver, BC) also put up some nice numbers, racking up 10 kills to go along with 8 digs and 2 aces. Fellow freshman Lisa Wedel (Guelph, ON) was efficient in attack, recording a .545 hitting percentage thanks to 6 kills on 11 total attacks. Second year setter Alex Curran (Aurora, ON) racked up 33 assists and 9 digs.

The Gryphons (1-6) will be right back on the court on Saturday night in North Bay as they close out a four-game road trip with a matchup against the Nipissing Lakers (3-2). Game time is set for 6pm and can be seen live online at oua.tv. The Gryphons' next home match is set for Friday, November 24 when they will host the No. 9-ranked Ryerson Rams (6-0).
