WINNIPEG (U SPORTS) – The Guelph Gryphons women's soccer team saw their 2017 season officially come to an end on Friday in Winnipeg following a 5-1 defeat to the host Manitoba Bisons in a U SPORTS Consolation semi-final match. The Gryphons, who came into the match having played in three consecutive matches requiring extra time, were never able to recover from a slow start which saw Manitoba explode for five goals in the opening half. Gryphons' second year striker
Victoria Hinchliffe would score the Gryphons lone goal in the 76th minute.

"The girls came out and I thought gave a good account of themselves in the second half," said Gryphons' assistant coach
Al Weersink. "Credit to Manitoba, everything they hit today was a goal."
The disappointing end to the season for the OUA champion Gryphons comes fresh off the heels of a hard-fought quarter-final matchup the previous day, where Guelph and Montreal were locked in a scoreless game until late in stoppage time. The emotionally and physically exhausting affair with the Carabins on Thursday seemed to take its toll on the Gryphons on Friday, who conceded three goals in the opening 17 minutes against the Bisons.
Manitoba now advances to face Victoria in the 5th-place game on Sunday.
