GUELPH - The Gryphons played well in the 1st half on Friday night against Laurier. But in the 2nd half, they found another gear. Friday night at Varsity Field, the Gryphons men's rugby team won 52-0 over the visiting Laurier Golden Hawks, with 33 of those 52 points coming in the 2nd half of play. With the result, the Gryphons improve to 5-1 on the season while Laurier falls to 4-2. The Gryphons now have two games remaining on the regular season schedule with a trip to Peterborough coming up on October 14.

"I thought the guys who came off the bench tonight were outstanding," said Gryphons head coach Cory Hector. "To put up 33 points like that in the 2nd half was impressive. It was nice to get back in the win column." 

The Gryphons victory on Friday night comes after the team's 34-26 defeat at Kingston the week prior against the undefeated Gaels. Helping leading the way for the Gryphs in the 2nd half was Andrew Douglas, Jeremy Seed and Chris Gray, all of whom came off the bench to score tries. Third year man Erich Milne, who is logging the most playing time of his U of G career following the departure of All-Star Eric Charest-Pekeski from last year's squad, had a team-high three tries on the night while John Sheridan added one of his own to go along with six converts.
 
The defending OUA champion Gryphons wrap up their regular season schedule with matches against Trent (Oct. 14) and Western (Oct. 20).
